Our runners come from across Douglas County and from different corners of county government — different uniforms, different buildings. For one weekend and 120 miles they are one team, and they are running to remember.
Our team brings together runners who have covered this course before and runners who have never taken on anything like it. The veterans know what mile ninety feels like at three in the morning. For everyone else, that is still ahead of them. Between now and March they train as one group, and by race weekend the difference will matter a good deal less than it does today.
What everybody here has in common is that they put their hand up. Nobody was assigned to this. That, and a group of families who trusted us with a name, is what the team is built on.
Our goal is not a trophy. It is to put twenty runners on that road, hand off cleanly twenty times, and come across the line at the Rio together.
